Cavagrande Natural Reserve was established in 1990 to preserve the natural vegetation, restore the Mediterranean forest vegetation and preserve the archaeological treasures.

It covers a vast area of 2,760 hectares, falling in the towns of Avola, Noto and Syracuse.

The reserve is crossed by the river Cassibile, the ancient greek Kakyparis, that gives its name, and that over millennia has dug deep gorges and canyons at different depths.

Under the archaeological and anthropological profile, Cavagrande is a nature reserve full of signs of human presence, Sicilian age to the present day, of which remained considerable evidence in tombs and artifacts.
