The whole of Ibla is an impressive expression of Baroque architecture, the result of a prodigious and clever reconstruction after the earthquake of 1693.
Towering over all is the Duomo, the Cathedral of S. Giovanni, the church of the Purgatorio, la Madonna dell'Itra, Palazzo Battaglia, Palazzo Zacco, Palazzo Casentini, Palazzo Cancelleria, Palazzo La Rocca, the Basilica of S. Giorgio built in 1700 above an enormous and spectacular flight of steps.
