NOTO
Noto, which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1693 and completely rebuilt in the 18th century, is rightly considered the capital of Sicilian Baroque.
It is the result of a clever reconstruction inspired by the Baroque ideals of an open city, for its regular urban plan made up of spectacular piazze. Noto is a rare masterpiece and the best example of the theatrical taste of eighteenth century architecture.

The soft stone has assumed a subtle honey colour which at sunset takes on magical shapes.
Elegant curves, floral interlacing, beautiful vistas, palaces and gardens, columns and cherubs: an explosion of superb and precious forms.
But Noto is not only Baroque; its territory contains other historical buildings and archaeological finds; from the Sicilian necropolis to the traces of Greek civilisation, from the Christian sanctuaries to the Byzantine oratories, from the Roman mosaics to the villas belonging to the nobility.

Apart from its art and history, Noto is situated in a place of rare beauty: from the Natural reserve of Vendicari to the Cava Grande del Cassibile (the deepest canyon in Europe).

Numerous artistic and folkloristic events take place in this setting; in spring the procession known as the 'Infiorata', the Baroque 'Corteo', the night of Giufà, the film festival called 'Cinema under the stars', the holy processions, the artistic Nativity scenes. And again; jazz, classical music, dance, cabaret and café concerts.
