BUCCHERI

This territory is rich in archaeological sites which are evidence of the
presence of man in distant times.
There are megalithic, mediaeval, Norman and Swabian finds.
The town was destroyed by the earthquake of 1693 and rebuilt further down
the valley where the mother church was moved . The mediaeval centre, on
the slope of the Tereo hill, was maintained.
There are numerous important 18th century churches in Buccheri and the ruins
of a 13th century castle.
